Well We had our First Big Pinewood Derby!!! Mick and his Dad worked very hard together on this car. Mick drew out the plan he wanted it to be like a Tractor pull tractor with smoke stacks an all. It turned out just like the drawing and Mick was so excited. They went to Jason's shop to cut it out and sand it then Mick painted it, dad drilled the holes for the stacks they came up with a clever idea to have the stacks hold the weight that the car needed. Before that they balanced it, polished the wheels. They worked together on all of it except cutting it out they used something that mick was not comfortable using so dad did that part for him.
The cars had to be weighed in on the night before the race and we were going to be out of town the whole week so we took it to Karen's on Sunday night to be weighed in. Though it could not travel in your hands Mick made a special box with an old t-shirt stuffed inside it to protect his car from any damage that just might happen to it. hahahahaha we loved this part us girls couldn't believe how serious Mick and Scott were about this car.
Weights needed to be added and wouldn't fit in the smoke stacks so they had to melt them down and pour them into the stacks. Mick was nervous that dad was going to spill the hot stuff on the car. The final weigh was 5.0 perfect.... Mick made sure no one was going to bump or touch his car while it spent the week at Aunt Karen's he tucked it back into the saftey box and sat it in the safe and untouchable corner.
Saturday night came and Mick couldn't sit still he was so excited and nervous. There was many cub scouts there for there first derby also and they to were so excited. Mick's car was very fast it would hit the finish line and bounce back up the track. There were many different cars that were all polished and shining and very unique. It is amazing to see everyones many talents and excitement the boys have about the race.
Mick was the lucky one for the evening and took FIRST place!

CONGRATS Mick!!!
Congratulations Mick-a-doodle! I love this story!
Mick might remember alot of things in his life, but I am sure he will remember this night and the experience he has had with his father. I can see Mick being an Eagle scout with his dad right along his side. It is what Scott loved so Mick will get his full attention!!!! Very Proud of the both of them.....
